The series of paintings are part of a more extensive project with the working
title memorials, or artifacts for a (future archeological) archive - paintings of
discursive contested spaces.


Lindgården (Djurgården, Sweden) #2

Lindgården was the last remaining building from the Stockholm Exhibition in 1930.
In 1992 the city sold the building to a private owner with the conditions that they had
to restore and protect the building. During 20 years the building was mismanaged.
In 2011 Lindgården was demolished and the ABBA Museum was built at the location.

A painting of the Celsing architechture office in 1967, with the model of the House of Culture
on the table in the middle of the room. The House of Culture in Stockholm is and has been a
contested controversial political symbol in Sweden. The House of culture is located in the
city center of Stockholm.

Schillerska Gymnasiet, Gothenburg (Sweden) 16 of June, 2001

The last evening of the EU summit in Gothenburg in June 2001 the Swedish National Police
Force entered the Schillerska gymnasium (that was offered by the city as hostel during the
EU-summit) with machine guns. According to the police the reason for the action was to find
a German terrorist (that never was found). This painting is part of a series of works on the
events that took place during and after the EU-summit in Gothenburg, Sweden in June 2001.

The Swedish Camp, Kotmale (Sri Lanka), 1980

The Swedish Camp in Kotmale was living and recreation area for the Swedish workers
and their families at the Kotmale Dam - a SIDA funded hydro power plant project that was
built by the Swedish construction company Skanska 1979-1985 in Sri Lanka. I was living
there with my family 1982-1984 when my father was working at the project.

Stars & Bucks Cafe, AL Manarah Square, Ramallah, Palestine

The psychic and geographical center of Ramallah is Al Manarah Square, a traffic roundabout
where six streets converge at irregular angles. Cars and people circulate in apparent chaos
around five carved lions statues symbolizing Ramallah’s five prominent families which encircle
a single Corinthian column.

Me at the local photo studio in Gampol just when I arrived to Sri Lanka in 1982. I lived in Sri Lanka
between 1982-1984 when my parents where working at the Kotmale Project, a Swedish funded
hydro power plant project built by Skanska. The project was very controversial in many ways both in
Sri Lanka and Sweden.

Ikea Sofa (1982), Kotmale, Sri Lanka, 2010

An Ikea sofa in a home at the Swedish Camp in Kotmale in 2010. The houses, recreation, lesure area
and the office in the Swedish Camp in Kotmale were built by Skanska for the Swedish staff and
their families for the dam project. All houses were furnished with Ikea furnitures imported from
Sweden in the beginning of the eighties. The Ikea furnitures are still there today 30 year later when
the camp is a holiday resort.

Förvaret, Märsta (Sweden)

"Förvaret" which means storage in english is located in Märsta North of Stockholm, close to Arlanda
air port. "Förvaret" belongs to The Swedish Migration Authorities (Migrationsverket). They use the place
to keep, storage, migrants that they (migrationsverket) intend to deport from Sweden. In many cases
people has been looked in at Förvaret for several year.

Free Trade Zones (FTZ) are a part of the prevailing economic rationalist ideology, which is today being touted
as "the only" economic paradigm, synonymous with globalisation, despite numerous other economic and
other alternatives existing. Katunayake is located next to the Air Port in Sri Lanka. The painting is a continuation
of my works on The Kotmale Project and the Free Trade Zones in Sri Lanka.
